This course is designed to build students' knowledge of various dance forms and styles of dance through the study of terminology, history, movement technique, and performance. Students will be introduced to Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Musical Theater, Lyrical, and selected World and Cultural Dance. There will be a strong emphasis on the Elements of Dance, such as space, time, and energy, throughout this course. Students will be required to learn and perform choreography, demonstrate knowledge of dance technique and terminology, and create original material. All of this will culminate in a final concert at the end of the semester.
Advanced Dance is designed to further instruct students in all areas of dance, with an emphasis on advanced dance techniques and choreography. Students in this class will explore the process of creating dances, and the stimuli that promote choreographers to create original works. Students will also venture into more complicated Modern Dance techniques, including site-specific choreography.
